Memorial for the Uprising June 17
In contrast to Max Lingner's mural under the arcades of the former Ministry of Aviation, the artist Wolfgang Rüppel presents an images of the uprise of June 17th in 1953. The horizontal glass plane is printed in several layers and has an area of 70 sqm. The goal was to illuminate the piece of art tightly. By using glass fiber optics the light sources were split in 130 small dots of light and were arranged one above the other at the top of a mast. The result is an excellently directed light distribution and a reduction of reflective light onto the adjacent ministry building. Due to the tight bundling of the optics the air appears to be glowing over a distance of 3m with the effect of the mast becoming a brush of light.
