Castle Königstein

The west part of the castle was build in the end of the 16th century and included large basements, an exit ramp called "Dunkle Apparail" as well as spacious exhibition rooms. From 2008 until 2015 it was renovated comprehensively and converted into a permanent exhibition. The historical architectural layouts from the time of August the Strong were recovered and were made legible again. These are now available for the numerous visitors. The lighting design concept is emphasizing this building with its vaulted rooms. Wall lights with an indirect component are highlighting these impressive architectural sculptures. They were carefully positioned to the walls which were partly painted. These luminaires with their smooth surface have a customized finish matching the wall paint to suit this project.  In certain areas small surface-mounted ceiling spot lights are used to illuminate exhibition objects. The basement and the exit ramp were illuminated in a modest way as well. With the opening in May 2015 after 8 years of planning and building the castle was hand over to the public with a great opening ceremony.
